Youth Rising: The Writing Workshop
We invite youth writers to join The Hook's virtual writing workshop, taught by The Hook founder and writer Akwi Nji, in which youth writers of all experience levels will generate poems and essays through July and August in this generative and supportive virtual environment.. Youth will be encouraged to write about the spring and summer of 2020 as an opportunity to bear witness to our times: COVID-19 and the overlapping social and economic crises.
The virtual writing workshops will be held on Wednesdays from July 8-August 19, 2020. There are two separate meetings times, depending on age:
1-2:30pm on Wednesdays for 10- to 13-yr-olds REGISTER HERE
3:00-5:00pm for 14- to 18-yr-olds. REGISTER HERE
Inquiries regarding availability of scholarships -- or to sponsor a student -- can be sent to email@example.com. Registration deadline for Youth Rising: The Writing Workshop is July 5, 2020.
This is a unique opportunity for youth to voice their perspectives on identity, humanity, gender, race, politics, and pandemic based on their experiences in these times--and see it come to live on stage. The material generated in this 7-week virtual writing workshop will then be paired with choreographed dance and spoken word performance in partnership with Nolte Academy. Typically, this would culminate in a live production. If COVID prevents this from being a live production, it'll be a beautiful virtual one.
To receive registration information, please email us at firstname.lastname@example.org. Registrants will receive meeting details after the registration deadline of July 5, 2020.
